Blood clotting disorders are a group of conditions in which the body is unable to adequately control how the blood clots. Under normal conditions, blood clots form during an injury to prevent bleeding. In case of a disorder in the clotting system, the blood may not clot enough, which can lead to excessive bleeding. These are called bleeding disorders. In other conditions the blood may clot in the absence of an injury, blocking or limiting the flow of blood to vital organs of the body. The latter is called thrombophilia, and these patients have an inherited increased tendency to form blood clots or thromboses.
